Encyclopedia of Needlework

January 21, 2010

When it comes to needlecraft how-to books, in my opinion, this one is the granddaddy of them all. It was originally written in 1886 by Therese de Dillmont, who maintained a long affiliation with DMC, the very well-known embroidery thread company. The book has been revised slightly and reprinted a number of times but continues to maintain its excellence. de Dillmont covers it all from plain sewing to gold embroidery and everything in between. The book is filled with numerous detailed illustrations. If you have room for only one needlework book on your shelf this should be the one. It is available from http://www.amazon.com as well as used book stores. You can also, sometimes, find it at various craft stores.
