Colin’s Sampler.3

March 11, 2010

Colin’s sampler is really starting to take shape which is a good thing since he is scheduled to make his debut in less than a month! I have stitched his name in cross stitch and in the space to the right I will stitch his birthdate; also in cross stitch. The band below his name is stitched in Williamsburg stitch which, according to Donna Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Needlework, is indigenous to the United States and was first found on a 17th century sampler in Williamsburg, VA. Below that band is a row of hearts worked in, the appropriately named, Rhodes Heart stitch. This is a variation of the Rhodes stitch used early in the sampler.

Next up, several more specialty stitches and a surprise embellishment!
