Spring Auction at Whitaker Auction Company

April 6, 2010

Whitaker Auction Company will hold its Spring auction on April 9 and 10. This sale promises to be very exciting with some very interesting and historical items up for bid. According to the website, the auction will feature property from the Historical Costume Museum of Miami, Florida. At one time the HCM comprised a large part of Fashion Group International’s South Florida branch. Fashion Group was founded in 1928 by 17 notable women with the original mission “to create a forum to express and enhance a widening awareness of the American fashion business and of women’s roles in that business.”

Also to be featured in the auction is a collection of fine estate linen from Anne Weightman Penfield who, in the early 20th century, inherited what was the largest fortune in America. Even if you are not interested in bidding, you really need to look at the photographs of these exquisite linens; two of which I have included in this post (Lots 190 and 193). Other interesting items include a collection of swatch cards de-accessioned from The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. This collection includes over 200,000 pieces. It is anticipated that these will be sold over several sales.

Visit the Whitaker website at http://www.whitakerauction.com to study the auction catalog which includes a description of all 821 lots and view photographs of many of them. Absentee and phone bids are accepted. Happy Bidding!!
